Who is Mette?
Mette is someone who is soft, feminine, less is more type of girly, curious and a big daydreamer.
I’m a dancer and a creative, based in london but i’m originally from Finland and a fun fact is that I love croissants
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I think everything! For me my closest friends are all the most inspiring people I know! Even the most mundane things on the streets, it could be anything, a song, a painting, the way that someone else moves. It’s just like gathering bits and bobs and whatever resonates and feels close to me I then take in and apply to my life.
Why dance and if you weren’t a dancer what you would you be?
“I chose dance because I wanted to be like the pussy cat dolls, like seriously! for me it’s also the funnest form of expression.
If I didn’t dance I still think I would be doing something creative, like with fashion or photography…but yh in the realms of expression and beautiful things for sure.”
What is your training background?
I started my first dance classes in modern, and then went into hip hop and commercial choreography, being inspired by the Pussy Cat Dolls of course. From there, I went into competition groups, formations and started delving into street dance styles a bit more.
Because this was back in Finland we trained more in foundations than in commercial choreography, however I moved to London 7 years ago, seeking out more of the choreography side of things as I always felt intrigued by it. Since I moved to London I’ve just had my eyes and ears open, taking in different classes, different jams and training with different people.
I also found vogue of course which is like ‘the bag’ for me!
Have you ever thought about giving up on your dreams?
I think you have those thoughts all the time as a dancer. It’s like an in and out thing, sometimes you love it, sometimes you hate it. We will never break up, but I don’t always like her! But I love her though! So yh, it can depend on where I’m at, sometimes it can feel so close to you and so right and other times so foreign, which can make you question and doubt yourself, but you always find you way back it.
What do you think makes a good dancer?
Someone who allows themselves to feel. That can be expressed in so many different ways but that’s the beauty of it.
What advice would you give to dancers entering the industry?
No one does you the way that you do you. So just sink in that, go deeper into yourself, trust yourself and the journey.
What you want your legacy in dance to be?
